Nkulukusa warns mines of closure over safety
ZANIS -Central Province Minister MWABASHIKE NKULUKUSA has threatened to recommend the closure of licensed mines abrogating safety regulations.
This follows the death of five miners who were buried at Mumbwa’s Ivungu mine.
Mr NKULUKUSA says it is unacceptable that the region has continued to lose lives due to non-compliance of safety regulations.
He said the government will enhance inspections of the mines to ensure that regulations are followed to the latter.
He told ZANIS in Kabwe that the copper mine in Nangoma area, in which the five died yesterday after the walls of the mine curved in on them, was as a result of failure by the mine owners to follow safety regulations.
