NO secretive Constitution Amendments – MWEETWA
By Ruth Chayinda
Government says it has NO intention to embark on any secretive constitution amendment as purported by some sections of society.
Information and Media Minister CORNELIUS MWEETWA says it is shocking that some sections of society are alleging that President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA and government want to conduct a secretive amendment to remove 50 plus 1 clause.
Mr. MWEETWA says government’s focus remains at ensuring economic recovery and not holding any constitution amendment process.
He has however clarified that it was parliamentarians under the standing orders committee that wanted to make amendments to non contentious matters within Parliament without recourse to the review of the constitution.
Mr. MWEETWA said this when he launched the Ministry of Information and Media strategic plan and balance score card 2022-2026 , Monitoring and Evaluation Framework and E -ATI mobile App.
And Information and Media Permanent Secretary, THABO KAWANA urged the ministry and the media to use the two documents to enhance their operations and information flow.
