NRFA suspends George Kunda tollgate operations
The National Road Fund Agency -NRFA- has suspended toll operations at the George Kunda Toll Gate, after a truck crashed into the toll-Plaza.
The accident that happened today at around 10:20 has left the toll gate located between Kapiri Mposhi and Mkushi extensively damaged.
NRFA Public relations Manager ALPHONSIUS HAMACHILA says one toll collector sustained injuries as a result of the accident.
Police Spokesperson, RAE HAMOONGA has also confirmed the accident and identified the injured NRFA employee as DIMAS YOMBWE, who is currently admitted to hospital.
Mr HAMOONGA says the Zambian registered SINO truck, driven by HENRY MUSARIRI, aged 49, of Lusaka, was laden with an unspecified number of fertilizer bags.
He has explained that preliminary investigations indicate that the accident happened when the driver lost control of the truck due to excessive speed, as a result crashed into the toll booth.
Mr HAMOONGA has added that Mr YOMBWE, who was inside the booth at the time, has sustained a deep cut on the head, a suspected fractured left shoulder, painful legs, and general body pains.
The driver of the truck escaped unhurt and police have detained him as investigations ensue.
