Nursing schools warned against over-enrolling
ZANIS- Health Minister ELIJAH MUCHIMA has warned nursing and midwifery institutions against over-enrolling students beyond capacity.
Dr. MUCHIMA says over-enrollment compromises the quality of training provided, and leads to producing incompetent health personnel who may jeopardize the health system.
He said this in a speech read on his behalf by Copperbelt Permanent Secretary, AUGUSTINE KASONGO.
This was during the 46th Copperbelt Province combined graduation ceremony for nurses and midwives, held in Mufulira District.
Dr. MUCHIMA said the government is committed to upholding high standards in the health sector and will hold educational institutions accountable to produce competent healthcare professionals.
Meanwhile, the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Zambia (NMCZ) Copperbelt Regional Manager JAMES MESA expressed concern about inappropriate dressing among nurses and midwives, labeling it as unprofessional conduct.
Mr. Mesa also cautioned health personnel against using their cell phones and Ear Pods while attending to patients, saying this interferes with the attention and quality of care given to patients.
Two thousand one hundred and twenty eight nurses and midwives from 18 public and private colleges across the Copperbelt Province graduated at this year’s ceremony.
