Opposition fail to field unified candidates for by-election
Opposition parties have failed to agree on fielding unified candidates in the forthcoming by-elections, with each party opting to field its own candidates.
The parties have disregarded the call by the United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) to field unified candidates in the parliamentary and local government by-elections.
UKA Chairperson for Communications, JACKSON SILAVWE, has expressed disappointment, stating that despite UKA reaching out to propose unified opposition candidates, their colleagues in the opposition went silent.
Mr. SILAVWE explained that while UKA was awaiting responses to its proposal, other opposition parties proceeded to announce their adopted candidates for the upcoming by-elections.
In a statement issued in Lusaka, Mr. SILAVWE noted that UKA has also exercised its democratic right to participate in the by-elections through its member party, Citizens First.
Seven candidates have successfully filed their nominations for the Petauke Central Constituency Parliamentary by-election, while four candidates are set to contest the Pambashe by-election.
Additionally, four candidates, including the ruling UPND candidate, have successfully filed nominations for the Litawa Ward by-election in Mongu District.
