
Palabana University to reclaim over 3,000 hectares of encroached land

About 3,569 hectares of land at Palabana University, in Chongwe district, has been encroached.
The university is now only remaining with 231 hectares.
Addressing students at the university, President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA said government will reclaim land from all those, who have encroached.
President HICHILEMA says once restored, the land will enable the university to venture into agriculture activities and contribute to food security.
President HICHILEMA was responding to an appeal by Palabana University Vice Chancellor, VERNON CHINENE, who appealed to him to reclaim the land.
And President HICHILEMA also said a solar mini-grid plant will be installed at the University to ensure the institution has 24-hour supply of electricity.
The President has directed Technology and Science Minister FELIX MUTATI to ensure the solar project is delivered.
At the same meeting, Palabana University Student Union President, COLLINS BWALYA thanked President HICHILEMA for including the University as beneficiaries of the Higher Education Student Loans.
He also thanked the President for reintroducing meal allowances and for the free education policy.
