Parley adjourns sine die
By Sharon Siame
The fourth session of the thirteenth National Assembly has adjourned Sine Die.
Before adjourning, the House conducted detailed study of the Cyber Crimes and Cyber Security Bills which were at Committee stage.
In defending the bill, Technology Minister FELIX MUTATI said deleting clause 30 from the bill would have dire consequences for the country.
Mr. MUTATI explained that in various abduction and kidnapping cases, law enforcement agencies have used the clause to save victims.
Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister JACK MWIIMBU however assured the House that there are already safeguards in place to prevent abuse.
Mr. MWIIMBU added that in an event where someone feels that an officer has abused his powers in relation to the law, such a person has a right to seek legal action against that officer.
During the debates on the bills, KAMFINSA Member of Parliament CHRISTOPHER KANG’OMBE expressed concern on some clauses in the Cyber Security bill, which provide for law enforcement officers to intercept phone conversations.
