“Parliament positioned to serve the needs of people”
Speaker of the National Assembly, NELLY MUTTI has pledged that Parliament will continue to engage in the development and implementation of policies and laws that are socially inclusive and gender- responsive.
Ms MUTTI says the National Assembly has continued to position itself to better serve the needs and aspirations of the people by the government development priorities.
Ms MUTTI said this in a statement issued marking Zambia’s 60th Independence Celebrations.
She said the reform of the Constituency Development Fund-CDF- demonstrates the National Assembly’s positive impact on the development process in the country.
Ms MUTTI said the enhanced CDF has transformed communities with the new CDF Act providing a broader representation and encouraging a people centric approach to development.
However, Ms MUTTI is concerned with the low number of women representation in Parliament.
She said this is despite parliaments across the world have seen increasing numbers of women elected to serve as parliamentarians.
