Police Inspector held over escape of 13 suspects

Police have arrested detective Inspector TITUS PHIRI for aiding the escape of 13 suspects from lawful custody at Leonard Cheelo Police Post in Lusaka’s Kanyama area.

Police Spokesperson REA HAMOONGA says the incident happened on Tuesday December 31, 2024 at approximately 10:00 hours.

Mr. HAMOONGA says Mr. PHIRI who was intoxicated forcibly seized cell keys from Woman Constable SERAH BANDA.

He says Mr. PHIRI unlocked both the male and female cells and instructed the suspects to leave and cross over into the New Year.

Mr HAMOONGA says a manhunt has been launched for the suspects.

This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC News by Mr. HAMOONGA.
