Police nab 8 for illegal mining operations at Mopani

Police in Kitwe have arrested Eight people  for conducting illegal mining operations at the Mopani Area D dump site in Kitwe’s Kandabwe Township.

This was after hundreds of unruly youths this morning ran battles with police after they invaded the Mopani Area D Copper dump site.

Copperbelt Police Commissioner PEACEWELL MWEEMBA says the suspects have been charged for criminal trespass and are detained at Kalulushi Police Station.

Mr. MWEEMBA named those arrested as MERCY SAWILA, CATHERINE CHINVULA, MATHEWS MBOLOMA and CHIPEGO HAMUDUDU all of Kitwe .

He said others are BRIAN MULIPA, INNOCENT CHANGWE, MWAPE KELVIN and GIFT KATEKA.
