Government has urged the Police Service to restore public confidence by avoiding all forms of corruption and playing an active role in rebuilding trust.
Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister, JACK MWIIMBU says Government remains committed to removing corrupt elements from the system.
Mr. MWIIMBU was speaking during the Zambia Police pass out parade of over 1,300 recruits for the basic course Intake of 2023-2024 in Lusaka.
He urged the newly recruited constables to help shift the public perception of the Police Service, which is often viewed as one of the most corrupt institutions.
Mr. MWIIMBU also highlighted Government’s efforts to equip officers with ICT skills to effectively combat cybercrime.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police GRAPHEL MUSAMBA reaffirmed the zero tolerance policy on unprofessional conduct within the service.
Mr. MUSAMBA also emphasized the need for ongoing specialized training particularly in technology to keep up with the evolving digital landscape.
And Lilayi Police College Commanding Officer GODFREY MWANZA explained that out of the over 1,000 recruits, about 700 are women, underscoring the Government’s commitment to gender equality.
Mr. MWANZA also raised concerns about the inadequate classroom space and learning infrastructure, which remains a challenge at the college.
