“Political competition does not amount to enmity”
By Ruth Chayinda
President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has paid glowing tribute to former cabinet minister in the MMD administration EDITH NAWAKWI for her contribution to the country.
President HICHILEMA says he interacted with Ms NAWAKWI on different fronts even in the days of the opposition, where they once formed an alliance.
The President has encouraged the country to mourn Ms. NAWAKWI in dignity.
Speaking during the funeral service at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, President HICHILEMA said the death of Ms NAWAKWI should accord the country an opportunity to turn a new page in dialogue between the opposition and government.
President HICHILEMA said government operates under an open door policy adding that dialogue is an expression of maturity which should be done without insults.
The President said conflicts may arise but what is important is for stakeholders to address them in a mature manner, as differences in political parties do not amount to enmity.
This was in response to the call by the FDD Vice President CHIFUMU BANDA that Government and the Opposition should dialogue on national issues instead of doing it through media.
