Political parties summoned after Petauke campaign violence

The Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- has summoned all political parties taking part in the February 6, 2025 Petauke by-election following the violence that characterised the campaigns.
ECZ District Electoral Officer, KELVIN BANDA says the parties have been summoned to discuss the need to respect the Electoral rules.
Mr. BANDA says there is need for political parties to adhere to the campaign calendar which all political parties agreed to respect.
He told ZNBC News in Petauke that political parties must uphold peace and the rule of law.
And Eastern Province Police Commissioner ROBERTSON MWEEMBA said Petauke is calm with business going about normally.
Mr. MWEEMBA has discouraged political parties from using young people to perpetuate violence.
