Power Generation expect to Increase at Kariba North Bank Power Station
By Masauso Mkwayaya
Power generation at the Kariba North Bank Power Station is expected to gradually increase following the increase in the allocation of water to the facility by the Zambezi River Authority.
Zambezi River Authority has allocated 13.5 billion cubic metres of water to the Kariba North Bank Power Station compared to 8 billion cubic meters given last year.
The allocation comes from the twenty-seven billion cubic metres of water that the Authority has given to Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Ministry of Energy Permanent Secretary for Electricity ARNOLD SIMWABA says the allocation is shared equally, with each utility receiving 13.5 Billion Cubic Meters for their respective power generation operations at the Kariba Dam.
And Mr. SIMWABA says contrary to public speculation, the 16 billion cubic meters of water was shared equally between ZESCO Limited and the Zimbabwe Power Company last year.
He adds that assertions that ZESCO or any of its partner institutions are engaged in misleading the public to justify power tariff hikes are baseless and not true.
This is according to a joint statement issued to ZNBC News by the Ministry of Energy, the Zambezi River Authority -ZRA- and ZESCO.
