President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has urged the Kanyesha Royal Establishment to avoid taking the route of the courts of law in the succession of Chief KANYESHA of the Lala-Swaka people of Luano District in central province.
President HICHILEMA says courts are not the best place to decide a successor.
He says the memory of Chief KANYESHA should be respected as the family looks for a successor.
President HICHILEMA has called for a proper way of doing things so that the right successor is chosen.
The President has described the late Chief KANYESHA as a visionary leader whose hard work should be emulated by all.
He says the late Chief had a great desire to diversify development in his chiefdom as seen from his embracement of people from different parts of the country into the Kanyesha chiefdom.
President HICHILEMA said this when he addressed hundreds of mourners during the first part of the burial of Chief KANYESHA who died on September 23rd, 2024.
At the same event, Senior Chief MBOROMA announced that Chief CHIKUPILI of Luano District has been chosen as caretaker Chief of Kanyesha chiefdom.
Senior Chief MBOROMA asked the people of the chiefdom to give the caretaker chief all the support, further stating that no one should impose themselves as Chief before the installation of the new chief takes place.
And in accepting the mantle, Chief CHIKUPILI called for support from all the chiefs in central province, saying he will continue promoting peace in Kanyesha chiefdom.
Earlier, Local Government and Rural Development Minister GARY NKOMBO praised the people of Luano for their peaceful and orderly nature.
Mr. NKOMBO emphasised that the process of succession should be done with dignity and honour.
Green Economy and Environment Minister MIKE MPOSHA called on the people to remain united, while his Energy counterpart MAKOZO CHIKOTE said people should learn from the late Chief who believed in hard work.
Central province Minister, MWABASHIKE NKULUKUSA is hopeful that the KANYESHA chiefdom will lead by example to propagate harmony and peace in the succession process.
Mr. NKULUKUSA said central province has faced succession wrangles in the selection of chiefs.
And the grandson of the late Chief sent the crowd into laughter as he mimicked his grandfather in urging people not to blame the government for the current drought the country is experiencing.
JONATHAN KUNDA encouraged people in the area to instead work hard and stop putting blame on government, as the role of the government is to provide the inputs for farming.
