“Prioritize Environmental Sustainability”
By Ruth Chayinda
Special Assistant to the President for Finance and Investments JITO KAYUMBA says government is prioritizing environmental sustainability even as it encourages investment in the extractive industry.
Mr KAYUMBA says while Government appreciates the economic benefits of the extractive industry, it is important that investors align their operations to reduce the carbon footprint.
He said this in an interview with ZNBC News after touring an old mine area at Maamba Collieries which has now over 50,000 trees planted to help neutralise the carbon footprint.
And Mr KAYUMBA who also met Maamba Collieries workers, has assured them of Government’s support towards the expansion of phase 2 of the 300 megawatts project.
He also urged the workers not to despair as Government is resolving the economic challenges the country is facing.
