Professor BENJAMIN MWEENE dies at 77

Former Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet BENJAMIN MWEENE has died.
Professor MWEENE served as Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet – Finance and Economic Development at Cabinet Office from 1999 to 2002 and subsequently as Secretary to the Cabinet Designate.
Deputy Secretary to the Cabinet SIAZONGO SIAKALENGE says Professor MWEENE, aged 77, died on Wednesday, December 25, 2024 at the Maina Soko Medical Center in Lusaka, after an illness.
He says Professor MWEENE also served as Deputy Vice Chancellor at the University of Zambia, Dean of the School of Natural Sciences, Director of Budget, Permanent Secretary Budget and Economic Affairs and Secretary to the Treasury, Ministry of Finance.
Mr. SIAKALENGE says the funeral gathering is being held at Number 215 A, Rosedale Farm on Mumbwa Road, Lusaka West in Chilanga District.
He says Cabinet Office is working in collaboration with the family of Professor MWEENE on the funeral arrangements.
Mr. SIAKALENGE says a detailed official funeral programme will be released once the burial arrangements have been concluded in consultation with the bereaved family.
