Public Feedback Vital in Amendments – KASUNE
By Ruth Chayinda
Justice Minister PRINCESS KASUNE says feedback on the proposed constitution amendments is part of the consultative process.
Ms. KASUNE however says it is imperative that the identified provisions in the constitution be amended before the 2026 General election.
She says it is important that the lacunas in the constitution be amended such as the effect of a resignation on an election, and the timeframe for hearing an election Petition.
In a statement issued to ZNBC News, Ms KASUNE also clarified that the increase of nominated MPs is merely a proposal and final text of the Amendment Bill shall be informed by feedback from the citizens.
She said the increase of nominated members of parliament will still be subject to 5 percent of the members of parliament in the national Assembly.
Ms KASUNE said Government remains committed to upholding the Constitution and ensuring that any amendments follow a transparent and consultative process with all key stakeholders.
