By Masauso Mkwayaya
Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister Jack Mwiimbu says the Public Gatherings Bill which is meant to replace the Public Order Act will be in place before the 2026 general election.
Speaking in Lusaka when Swedish Ambassador to Zambia, Johan Hallenborg paid a courtesy call on him to discuss matters of mutual interest, Mr. Mwiimbu expressed hope that the Public Gatherings Bill will be presented to Parliament before the end of the year.
He said government through public consensus came up with a draft Public Gatherings Bill, to which members of the civil society organisations reacted by proposing some amendments.
Mr. Mwiimbu says government has taken the suggestions into consideration.
This is according to a statement issued to ZNBC News by Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security Principal Public Relations Officer.
