Residents of the Israeli City of Sderot dealing with PSTD
By Paul Shalala
Six thousand residents of the southern Israeli city of Sderot are being treated for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as a result of the War in Gaza.
Sderot is located 700 meters north of the Gaza Strip and occasionally receives a barrage of rockets fired by Palestinian militant groups.
International Resilience Center of Sderot Director, Ayelet Shmuel, says the sound of rockets, gunfire, bombs, and the sight of dead bodies have traumatized many people who are in need of help.
She says in Sderot alone, six thousand people are being attended to, and the number of specialized health personnel deployed in the city has increased to over 300 since the current war started on October 7, 2023.
Ms. Shmuel told ZNBC News in Sderot that the war has left some residents with panic attacks.
The Mayor of Sderot, Alon Davidi, said Post Traumatic Stress Disorder has affected many children who are traumatized by rockets that usually fly past their houses from the Gaza Strip into southern Israel.
