SADC Moves to Protect Troops in DRC

The Southern African Development Community –SADC- extra ordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government has called for an immediate dispatch of Ministers of Defence and Troop contributing countries to ensure the safety of soldiers in the Democratic Republic of Congo -DRC.
The Summit has also resolved to facilitate immediate repatriation of injured and deceased troops in that country.
In a communiqué issued to ZNBC news in Lusaka, the Summit urged political and diplomatic leaders who are parties to the conflict to engage in dialogue and restore peace in Eastern DRC.
The Summit has also mandated SADC organ TROIKA on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation to engage all parties on a cease fire process to protect lives and facilitate a smooth flow of humanitarian support.
The SADC leaders are concerned with the deteriorating situation in Eastern DRC and have called for immediate restoration of essential utilities.
President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA attended the Summit virtually, which was chaired by SADC Chairperson EMMERSON MNANGANGWA.
