By Honester Mshoka
The Southern African Development Community-SADC has initiated discussions on the implementation of the Congo Water transfer and hydro power project.
The project is part of a broader vision to develop a power grid across Africa, with the DRC strengthening regional collaboration in the power sector.
The undertaking is estimated to cost over 100 billion United States dollars.
SADC Infrastructure Director MAPOLAO MOKOENA says the project will enhance the region’s water and energy security.
Ms. MOKOENA made these remarks during the 2025 SADC Infrastructure Performance Review and Planning Retreat meeting in Kafue district.
And SADC Secretariat Water Senior Programme Officer PATRICE KABEYA noted that the project is still in its conceptual phase, currently being presented to regional stakeholders and investors.
Meanwhile, Kafue Gorge Regional Training Centre Chief Executive Officer DAVIES CHINKUSU reaffirmed the centre’s commitment to helping the nation address the current power deficit.
