Secretary to the Cabinet Calls for Disciplinary Action Against Corrupt Procurement Officers
By Sharon Siame
Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa has directed Controlling Officers to discipline erring procurement officers under their charge.
Mr. Kangwa says failure to do so will result in disciplinary measures being instituted against such Controlling Officers.
He also says erring procurement officers should no longer be transferred to another post but should be fired as a way of curbing corruption.
Mr. Kangwa said this during a Zambia Institute of Purchasing and Supply (ZIPS) Procurement Committee Members Workshop in Lusaka today.
And ZIPS President Daniel Kabamba called on procurement officers to ensure efficiency and transparency in the procurement of goods and services.
Mr. Kabamba says it is the responsibility of procurement officers to ensure that the country does not go back into the debt trap by ensuring sustainability of projects.
