Security Guard Arrested for UTH Medicine Theft

A private security guard has been apprehended in Lusaka, in connection with the theft of various medicines, among them ARVs, at the University Teaching Hospital -UTH.
KELVIN NYAMBE, aged 29, of Kuku compound, is believed to have committed the offence on January 31, 2025, around 23 hours, while on duty.
The suspect was found with 15 bottles of Panadol, each containing 1,000 tablets, 25 bottles of Ibuprofen, each containing 1,000 tablets and 24 bottles of Dolutegavir – ARV drugs.
Police Spokesperson, RAE HAMOONGA has confirmed and appealed to members of the public with information on the theft to come forward and help the police.
Mr. HAMOONGA has explained that on the material day, Mr. NYAMBE was assigned with 7 other colleagues to guard the newly constructed OPD building at UTH, where various medicines are temporarily stored.
He added that Mr. NYAMBE’s shift partner, identified as OSTEIN CHINA, went to the toilet but within the same building.
Mr HAMOONGA said when Mr. CHINA came back, he found Mr. NYAMBE packing the medicines in his backpack and he alerted other guards, who later apprehended the suspect.
