Sinkhole on Ndola-Sikania railway line disrupts business
By Fortune Sinyangwe
Transport and Logistics Minister, Frank Tayali, says the sinkhole on the Ndola-Sakania railway line in the Copperbelt Province has disrupted the movement of goods between Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
Mr. Tayali has urged authorities to expedite assessments of the sinkhole and restore movement on the rail line.
Speaking when he inspected the sinkhole in Ndola, Mr. Tayali called on Zambia Railways to collaborate with the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) to resolve the situation.
Meanwhile, Zambia Railways Managing Director, Cuthbert Malindi, said that while the sinkhole has impacted business, it does not pose an immediate threat to the railway line.
Mr. Malindi explained that goods currently stuck in transit between the two countries will be transported by road as a temporary measure.
