SP attains 100% treatment coverage for people living with HIV
Southern Province Permanent Secretary, NAMANI MONZE has praised the provincial health office for attaining 100 percent treatment coverage for people living with HIV in the past one year.
Dr MONZE says this achievement is a milestone as the ZAMPHIA 2021 report shows that the HIV prevalence rate for the province was 13.2 percent third from Lusaka which is at 14.4 percent and Copperbelt at 13.6 percent.
ZANIS reports that Dr MONZE was speaking in Livingstone when he graced the 2024 Annual Performance Review Meeting for the TB/HIV programme in Southern Province which has been implemented with support from the Centre for Disease Control (CDC).
Dr MONZE said this is key in building healthy communities that can contribute to the country’s economic development.
And speaking earlier Southern Province Health Director CALLISTUS KAAYUNGA said his office is making efforts to meet the three 95s United Nations targets in HIV and TB prevention and treatment.
Dr KAAYUNGA also revealed that in the 2024 financial year resources were rechanneled into investment in solar backups, infrastructure development and furniture.
Southern Province is implementing a five year TB and HIV prevention and treatment programme supported by Centre for Disease Control -CDC- and through this programme about 409 health personnel have been directly employed.
