Stop bush burning to preserve grazing land – HH

President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA has urged traditional leaders to work together to stop bush burning.
Speaking when he met traditional leaders in Namwala at the Shimunenga traditional ceremony, President HICHILEMA said people should not be burning bushes when grass is already scarce because of drought.
He said Namwala was declared a cattle economic zone but has wondered where the animals will graze-from if grass is being burnt.
Meanwhile, President HICHILEMA said government will amend the law to make stock theft non-bailable.
He said the previous government had amended the law to allow bail for cattle rustlers but that the UPND government will bring the law back to protect livestock.
And speaking at the Shimunenga Ceremony, President HICHILEMA thanked Zambians and traditional leaders for their tolerance and patience in the face of drought.
He assured that government is working hard to feed the people and that no one will die of hunger.
President HICHILEMA also thanked traditional leaders for showing unity and working together saying this will have a multiplier effect on their subjects which will in turn foster development.
The Head of State further urged chiefs to ensure all those eligible go to school because government is providing free education.
And House of Chiefs Southern Province Chairperson Chief NALUBAMBA asked government to help farmers in the coming farming season to overcome the problem of water caused by drought.
And House of Chiefs Chairperson Chief NKAMBO thanked President HICHILEMA for bringing dignity to chiefs through building of palaces.
