Storm damages 267 houses in Sinda
By Christopher Miti
A storm has destroyed over 267 houses in Sinda District, Eastern Province.
The storm was coupled with a heavy downpour recorded yesterday afternoon.
District Commissioner David Tembo, who rushed to the affected areas with a team from the District Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU), said some houses have completely collapsed while others have had their roofs blown off or flooded.
Mr. Tembo says two churches and two schools have been destroyed, and some shops and billboards within the CBD have also been destroyed.
He told ZNBC News that the affected families spent their nights in schools while others sought shelter at their neighbours’ homes.
Mr. Tembo said his office is writing to the Provincial Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit to see how the people can be helped.
Meanwhile, Kapoche Ward Councillor Bertha Banda said the extent of the damage caused by the storm is massive.
