The Swedish Environmental Protection Agency has pledged to support Zambia in implementing short and long-term measures to reduce water pollution caused by mining activities.
Agency International Unit Policy Development Department Senior Advisor Andreas Lindstrom says Sweden will provide expertise from civil and water engineers to help prevent water pollution.
Mr Lindstrom said this when he paid a courtesy call on Water Development and Sanitation Minister Collins Nzovu in Lusaka.
And Mr. Nzovu urged the Swedish government to expedite their assistance in reducing pollution of the Kafue River.
He noted that discussions on the required cost and expertise to address the pollution should also be expedited.
Meanwhile, Swedish Ambassador to Zambia, Johan Hallenborg assured that his country’s government will continue supporting Zambia in various sectors, including water.
