Sweden to Finance ‘People-Centred Police’ Project
By Wilson Mulimba
The Swedish government will finance the next phase of a project aimed at reforming the Zambia Police Service into a people-centred and human rights-based institution.
This is after the Swedish government noted the impressive outcomes from the first phase.
Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister, JACK MWIIMBU says government and the Zambia Police Service have welcomed the extension of the project initiated in 2022 to ensure public gatherings are managed in a human rights-based manner.
Mr. MWIIMBU said this when Swedish Ambassador to Zambia, JOHAN HALLENBORG paid a courtesy call on him at his office.
And Mr. HALLENBORG noted impressive outcomes from the first phase of the project, whose objective was to enhance human rights and the rule of law within the Zambia Police Service, hence the extension of funding.
This is contained in a statement issued to ZNBC News by Ministry of Home Affairs and Internal Security Principal Public Relations Officer MWALA KALALUKA.
