TAZARA Using 10 instead of 50 locomotives

Transport and Logistics Minister, FRANK TAYALI says the rail sector has been struggling, with Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority -TAZARA- only using 10 locomotives instead of the 50.
Mr. TAYALI says this is why it has been difficult to enforce the Statutory Instrument requiring at least 30 percent of bulk and heavy cargo to be transported by rail.
In an interview with ZNBC News in Lusaka today, Mr. TAYALI is optimistic that the revitalization plan, which includes upgrading rail tracks and purchasing new locomotives, will increase capacity and help shift more heavy cargo from roads to rail.
He added that improved infrastructure will further strengthen ties and cooperation between China and Africa.
