“Traditional ceremonies bring peace and stability”
By Joy Nyambe
President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA says the unity made possible by traditional ceremonies is in line with the UPND’s agenda to bring peace and stability in the country.
President HICHILEMA says the agenda to promote peace, love and stability serves as a platform for developing the country.
The President says the UPND administration will continue supporting traditional ceremonies to enrich unity in diversity.
President HICHILEMA has also emphasised that the government will continue giving special attention to farming as it is crucial to the country’s development efforts.
He says this is why the government is developing the Mkushi Dam to support farmers and make agriculture viable.
The President says the directive he gave earlier this year for traditional leaders to be given farming inputs will be a permanent exercise.
President HICHILEMA was speaking today when he graced this year’s Ichibwela Mushi traditional ceremony of the Lala and Swaka people of Chief SHAIBILA in Mkushi district.
And Justice Minister PRINCESS KASUNE, who is also Keembe Member of Parliament, has called for unity among the Lala and Swaka people.
Ms. KASUNE says traditional leaders from other parts of the country and the DRC attending the ceremony demonstrate the unity that the country enjoys 60 years after independence.
And Central province Minister MWABASHIKE NKULUKUSA says traditional ceremonies should continue to be supported as they are a uniting force for peace and prosperity.
And Ichibwela Mushi organising committee Chairman BENNY MUSONDA has called for the regulation of mining activities in Central province so that local people can benefit from mineral resources.
Mr. MUSONDA has also expressed gratitude to President HICHILEMA for personally donating 100 thousand kwacha, 100 bags of mealie meal and five animals towards the traditional ceremony.
Meanwhile, House of Chiefs Chairperson Chief NKAMBO says the presence of other Chiefs at this year’s Ichibwela Mushi traditional ceremony demonstrates unity in diversity.
He says the unity displayed by the presence of Chiefs could not have been possible without the support of President HICHILEMA towards traditional ceremonies.
Some opposition and UPND members of parliament also spoke at the event.
