“Traditional ceremonies play a vital role in fostering national identity”
By Patricia Banda
Acting President Mutale Nalumango says traditional ceremonies play a vital role in fostering national identity and social cohesion.
Mrs. Nalumango says it is important to preserve the country’s heritage for future generations.
She was speaking during the 2025 N’cwala Traditional Ceremony Appreciation dinner in Lusaka last evening, ahead of the ceremony on 22 February 2025.
Mrs. Nalumango says the government is working with stakeholders to develop infrastructure that promotes cultural events.
Paramount Chief Mpezeni has thanked the government for improving infrastructure at the N’cwala main arena where the ceremony is held in Mtenguleni.
Mpezeni said this through his representative, Senior Chief Nzamane.
Meanwhile, Chairperson of the N’cwala Traditional Ceremony Organising Committee, Dumisani Tembo, has thanked the government for supporting the ceremony.
The organising committee has also honoured organisations and individuals for their contributions to the country and the ceremony.
Among those honoured include former Football Association of Zambia President Tom Mtine, who was honoured posthumously, and lawyer Professor Patrick Mvunga, who is the oldest grandson of the second Mpezeni.
