The Zambia Medicine and Medical Supplies Agency -ZAMMSA- says Sixty One containers carrying assorted medicines and medical supplies have been released.
ZAMMSA Senior Manager -Corporate Communications BRADLEY CHINGOBE says the containers were recently held by the transporter and clearing agent pending payment of the associated fees.
Mr. CHINGOBE says the containers were marooned at J and J warehouse in Makeni, pending the payment of demurrage and storage charges by ZAMMSA.
He has appreciated Health Minister SYLVIA MASEBO for ensuring that the containers are released and offloading is currently ongoing at ZAMMSA central warehouse in Lusaka.
Mr. CHINGOBE says investigations by law enforcement agencies to determine what led to the accumulation of the charges and the exact amount involved have been instituted.
He adds that the release of the health commodities will ensure timely distribution of life-saving commodities to over 3-thousand five hundred health facilities across the country.
Mr. CHINGOBE further says the consignment is part of the third shipment of the bulk procurement of health commodities from the Arab Republic of Egypt.
