By Chansa Kunda
Zambia has thrashed Tanzania 4-1 to kickoff their 2025 Under 17 AFCON campaign on a bright note.
The Junior Chipolopolo struck twice in both halves of the game to send warning shots to hosts Morocco who beat Uganda five nil in yesterday’s opening game.
Zambia’s first half goals came from Jonathan Kalimina in the 8th minute and Able Nyirongo minutes to the half time break.
The second half looked promising for the COSAFA Champions as Mike Mutale found the back of the net in the 79th minute to put Zambia three-nil up while Tanzania pulled a goal back through Juma Sagwe in additional time.
The Ian Bakala tutored side was determined to dominate and concluded the game with the stoppage time goal from Gabriel Phiri to make it 4-1.
Morocco top group A on three points but are joint with second placed Zambia as only goal difference separates them.
Tanzania is third while Uganda is in fourth position.
