The United Kwacha Alliance -UKA – has also called on President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA to institute a commission of inquiry into the revelations at the Anti – Corruption Commission.
This follows the resignation of ACC Director General, THOM SHAMAKAMBA on Tuesday.
UKA Chairperson SAKWIBA SIKOTA says the resignation of Mr. SHAMAKAMBA should serve as an eye opener for public service officers failing to perform either through corruption or incompetence.
Mr. SIKOTA has also recommended that the commission of inquiry should be open to the public so that Zambians can comprehend the fight against corruption.
He said this in an interview with ZNBC News in Lusaka.
But Chief Government Spokesperson CORNELIUS MWEETWA told ZNBC News that the calls by UKA are pre-emptive.
Mr. MWEETWA said that the happenings at the ACC must be left to unravel without prejudice.
He said setting up the Commission of Inquiry is a Preserve of the President, but that Government is listening to all stakeholders and will make a determination.
Mr. MWEETWA, who is also Information and Media Minister, said that President HICHILEMA assured the public that investigative wings must follow up all the financial irregularities in the Financial Intelligence Centre -FIC report.
He also said the happening at the ACC are also a clear indication that there is transparency in the management of the Fight against Corruption because Commissioner and enforcers are free to come out in the open and share their views.
