“Unlocking of Konkola and Mopani Copper Mines a success for UPND”
Mine Unions have described the unlocking of Konkola and Mopani Copper Mines as a success for the UPND in the last three years.
Speaking to ZNBC News in Kitwe, National Union of Miners and Allied Workers -NUMAW-President SAUL SIMUJIKA said the resolving of challenges in the mining sector will attract investment.
Mr SIMUJIKA said with the way the mining sector is improving and attracting more investment under the President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA, there is hope for a much better working condition for mine workers and more employment opportunities for Zambians in the sector.
Meanwhile, United Mine Workers Union of Zambia -UMUZ- General Secretary YOSAMU NYIRONGO said the mining sector in Zambia is in a much better place than it was three years ago as there is now a consistent policy regime that has attracted foreign investment.
Mr. NYIRONGO said under the New Dawn government the unions have created a much better relationship with mine investors particularly at KCM and Mopani that has led to good working conditions for the mine workers.
He has expressed happiness with the payment of creditors of KCM by Vedanta saying the money will boost the economy of the Copperbelt.
