UPND condemns Catholic letter on Constitutional Amendments
The UPND has condemned a letter written by the Catholic Archdiocese of Lusaka Presbyteral Council on proposed constitutional amendments.
The council comprises a group of selected Lusaka Arch-diocese Priests who advise Archbishop ALICK BANDA on matters of governance and faith among other issues.
And, UPND Religious Affairs Chairman Reverend, WILLIAM NJOMBO says the Council’s allegations are unfounded.
Speaking during a press briefing in Lusaka today, Reverend NJOMBO says government’s priority has been to address pressing economic issues, but now feels it is time to tackle the constitutional amendments to save public resources and promote national development.
And UPND Media Director MARK SIMUUWE explained that the UPND’s proposals are distinct and aim to promote good governance and national development.
Mr. SIMUUWE said the proposed amendments do not include provisions such as the abolition of the Teaching Service Commission, Local Government Commission, or the Industrial Relations Court, which were part of Bill 10.
