
UPND Scoops Mtilizi ward by-election

The ruling UPND has scooped the Mtilizi ward seat in the Local Government by-elections held in Nyimba Constituency, Eastern Province .
Returning Officer STEPHEN MBITA declared LLOYD MWENDA duly elected at around 22:28 hours at Mambo Day two , a totaling Centre.
Speaking after being declared winner, LLYOD MWENDA pledged to work for the people of Mtilizi ward and paid tribute to the UPND leadership for the support.
Mr MWENDA got 2,152 votes against his closest rival BERNARD LUNGU of the National Congress Party , the Tonse Alliance, who polled 576 votes.
Meanwhile, Eastern Province UPND chairperson PETER PHIRI says the victory means a lot to the party and that it has consolidated it’s presence in the province which the opposition claimed was it’s strong hold .
Mr PHIRI has since urged the newly elected councillor to promote Government programmes to the people .
And The Citizens First Party ‘s candidate TIMOTHY MANDA got 59 votes while SYLUVIOUS KAMUNGU came fourth with 32 votes .
