UTH introduces “Leave-your-Phone-for-a-wheelchair” Policy
By Martha Kanene
The University Teaching Hospital -UTH – has introduced a new system requiring patients to deposit their phones in exchange for a wheelchair, which they can retrieve upon returning the equipment.
This follows reports that some discharged patients are walking away with the hospital’s wheelchairs, creating a significant shortage and causing a crisis for those in need.
Health Minister, ELIJAH MUCHIMA says he supports the measure, describing it as a practical way to safeguard the remaining wheelchairs.
Dr MUCHIMA also announced plans to install surveillance cameras at the Hospital to further curb the problem.
