By Christopher Miti
A 48-year-old man has died in Vubwi district, Eastern province, after the earth collapsed on him during an illegal gold mining operation.
The incident happened yesterday around 10 hours, along the Mlawe stream in Chief Pembamoyo’s area.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer, Robertson Mweemba has confirmed and identified the deceased as Landisani Phiri of Kachile village.
Mr Mweemba has explained that the incident happened while Phiri was mining together with his 2 wives.
He has added that the wives watched helplessly as the stream bank curved in on their husband, who was completely buried.
Mr Mweemba says after the incident, the deceased’s second wife, Charity Banda informed nearby villagers, who helped retrive the body.
