Water Utilities Intensify Cholera Mitigation Efforts in Hotspot Areas

Commercial Water utilities have scaled up Cholera mitigation efforts in hot spot areas, to protect the public and ensure access to safe water.
Water Development and Sanitation Minister, COLLINS NZOVU says this is in response to the cholera outbreak in Nakonde District.
Speaking at a press briefing held in Lusaka, Mr NZOVU disclosed that the Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company has prioritized per-urban peri-urban areas such as Kanyama, George , Bauleni , Kabanana and Chainda.
He further explained that his Ministry is being supported by stakeholders including the Ministry of Health and UNICEF among others to ensure a coordinated and effective response to cholera prevention and preparedness.
Mr. NZOVU highlighted that Water utilities are also employing super chlorination techniques to ensure safe drinking water to prevent post contamination.
Meanwhile, Mr. NZOVU has announced that works at the Kafulafuta water supply system project under Kafubu Water and Sanitation Company has been completed.
He said the project is scheduled for commissioning by President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA by the end of January, this year.
