Women’s Lobby Back HH’s call for Constitutional Amendments
By Ruth Chayinda
Zambia National Women’s Lobby says the constitutional amendment of the non-contentious issues such as proportional representation in Parliament will strengthen democracy and promote inclusivity.
ZNWL Acting Executive Director GOLDEN NACHIBINGA says the women’s Lobby welcomes President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA’s call to amend that clause because it is one of the issues that needs to be addressed.
In an interview with ZNBC News in Lusaka, Mr. NACHIBINGA said the low numbers of women, youth and people living with disabilities in positions of leadership has been an issue of concern for the Lobby.
Mr. NACHIBINGA said there is no better time to amend the proportional representation clause in the constitution as the country gears up for elections in 2026 but can be decided by the stakeholders .
He said amending the clause will promote peace and strengthen democracy in the country.
