World Bank releases $2.8m for tourism development

The World Bank has released about 2.8 million United States dollars to the Zambian government for feasibility studies in tourism development areas.
Tourism Permanent Secretary EVANS MUHANGA says the 2.8 million United States dollars is the first disbursement of the 100 million United States dollars loan the World Bank awarded to the country for tourism.
Mr. MUHANGA has however clarified that the 100 million United States dollars which will be disbursed over a period of seven years is for all the tourism development areas in the country.
He has told Journalists that currently the ministry of tourism is conducting feasibility studies for already existing infrastructure that will need improvement.
And, Tourism Minister, RODNEY SIKUMBA said the road network in Livingstone is one of the major projects under consideration because of its immediate effect to boost tourism.
He was speaking in Livingstone after touring the Mukuni Park Curio Market accompanied by the World Bank Managing Director and Group Chief Administrative Officer to Zambia WENCAI ZHANG.
Meanwhile, Mr. WENCAI has told journalists in Livingstone that the World Bank is looking forward to implementing projects that will support tourism development in Zambia by the year 2030.
He said he is pleased that the Mukuni Park Curio Market constructed through financing from the World Bank about 15 years ago is still giving maximum benefits to local traders.
