Zambia and Egypt Sign MoU to Boost Fish and Aquaculture Research
Fisheries and Livestock Minister Peter Kapala says the MoU signed between Zambia and Egypt seeks to enhance research in the fish and aquaculture subsectors.
Mr. Kapala explained that the government is interested in profiting from the advanced technology that Egypt is offering in the fisheries and livestock subsectors.
He says the MoU with Egypt will strengthen Zambia’s capacity to increase the production of fish feed and reduce the current cost of the commodity.
Mr. Kapala indicated that the high cost of feed and over-reliance on capture fisheries are among the major challenges that have prevented the growth of the aquaculture subsector.
NAIS reports that the Minister noted that Zambia is earmarked to increase livestock production as the government of Egypt has agreed to invest in Zambia’s vaccine and artificial insemination centres.
