Zambia battles growing NCD crisis, ZNPHI reports

Zambia National Public Health Institute -ZNPHI – is concerned with the increased number of people living and dying from non- communicable diseases-NCDs- like diabetes and cardiovascular among others.
ZNPHI- Director General ROMA CHILENGI says diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, hypertension and cancer disorders are now the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in Zambia.
Professor CHILENGI was speaking at a Health talk organized by Cavendish University which featured different health experts on non- communicable diseases.
He said most people have a tendency of going to the hospital when the condition gets worse.
Meanwhile Cancer Diseases Hospital –CDH- Senior Medical Superintendent SUSAN MSADABWE said cancer disorders if detected early are curable and preventable.
And University Teaching Hospitals Endocrinologist Dr. BROWN KAMAMGA cited alcohol, smoking, and bad eating habits as most risk factors of NDCs.
