Zambia has been elected council member of the Global Green Growth Institute -GGGI-, a 48-member international organisation chaired by former United Nations-UN- Secretary General BAN KI MOON.
Green Economy and Environment Minister, MIKE MPOSHA presented Zambia’s candidature to the 13th Session of the Assembly and the 17th Session of the Council at GGGI Headquarters in Seoul, Korea .
Speaking during a Ministerial Panel Discussion under the theme: “Addressing Plastic Pollution in Context of Green Growth”, Mr. MPOSHA said Zambia was facing an escalating waste management problem that was negatively impacting economic, environmental and social sustainability.
The Minister however, said waste also provided opportunities for investment.
Mr MPOSHA says there are many opportunities in Zambia in developing waste-to-energy projects, waste-to-compost to support urban agriculture and scientifically engineered landfills.
The GGGI is a treaty-based international organisation formed in 2012 that is dedicated to promoting sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies.
Mr. BAN is the President of the Assembly and Chair of the Council of the GGGI, which has its headquarters in Seoul Korea.
This is according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment Communications Unit.
