By Mwila Nsofu
Zambia has expressed interest to engage Mozambique on the possibility of importing more power directly from that country at a reasonable price, without middlemen.
And the two countries have called for close cooperation and agreed to build a gas pipeline between Mozambique and Zambia.
This is according to a joint Communiqué issued at the Conclusion of the State Visit to Zambia by President FILIPE NYUSI of Mozambique.
President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA and President NYUSI have called on the two sides to expedite the processes of allocation of land to Zambia at the Ports of Beira and Nacala for use as dry ports.
The two Heads of State also called for both parties to expedite the process of negotiations on the establishment of the One Stop Border Post at Chanida and Casacatiza to enhance trade between the two countries and the region.
The Presidents further noted progress made in the implementation of the Bilateral Air Services Agreement with the National Airline of Mozambique flying between Lusaka and Maputo.
They expressed the need to introduce Zambia Airways flights without crowding out the route.
And President NYUSI expressed appreciation to Zambia’s support in the fight on terrorism in Mozambique in the Northern Province of Cabo Delgado through SADC Mission in Mozambique -SAMIM-, which will withdraw from Mozambique on July 15th 2024.
President NYUSI acknowledged the visionary way in which President HICHILEMA presided over the Extraordinary Summit of the Organ Troika on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation and the SADC Troika, held on March 23, 2023, in Lusaka, which, among others, approved the Withdrawal Plan of the SAMIM.
