Education Minister DOUGLAS SYAKALIMA says Zambia has the best school feeding program in Africa.
Mr. SYAAKALIMA says the school feeding program which is currently being implemented in 84 districts will be increased to 106 districts in 2025.
He says the Ministry is collaborating with the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit -DMMU- to ensure timely delivery of school supplies in areas affected by the drought.
The Education Minister said this in the National Assembly in response to a question by Kalabo Central Member of Parliament CHINGA MIYUTU who wanted to know the measures Government has put in place to sustain school attendance by pupils, especially in rural areas, in view of the food shortage.
Mr. SYAKALIMA said the Ministry has also strengthened partnerships with organisations such as World Vision and Global Partnerships for Education who are providing initiatives to meet the nutritional needs of the learners.
He said the Government has set up a monitoring system to identify schools that are at risk of running out of food supplies.
