Zambia seals power deals in China
ZESCO and Power Construction Corporation of China – POWERCHINA- have signed three Memorandum of Understanding for the development of three power projects in Zambia.
These are the framework Cooperation Agreement for the supplying, delivery and installation of rooftop solar system projects in Zambia and the Engineering, Procurement and Construction agreement of 100 megawatt for Kariba North Solar photovoltaic power plant.
The other one is the Engineering Procurement and Construction Agreement for 100 megawatt Kafue Lower Solar PhotoVoltaic Power Plant.
President HAKAINDE HICHILEMA and Chairman of Power Construction Corporation China DING YANZHANG witnessed the signing ceremony.
ZESCO Managing Director VICTOR MAPANI signed on behalf of ZESCO while Chairman of Power China International MA CHEN GUANFU signed for Powerchina.
Speaking during the ceremony, President HICHILEMA asked the company to speed up the implementation of the projects to alleviate the power challenge.
He said the country is in need of an energy mix to address the demand for power.
President HICHILEMA has further asked the company to invest in water harvesting projects saying the country needs support to tap water from the Luapula River to the Kafue river basin.
And, Mr DING pledged to support Zambia in finding solutions to the power challenge.
He further pledged his company’s commitment to implementing projects on time.
